Day 5: Detour to Memory Lane

Today we deviated from Route 66 to drive about 2 hours south to my hometown of Henrietta, Texas. It was truly a detour down memory lane. I got to show my boys where I went to elementary school and my first year of junior high, the two homes we lived in during our years here in town, the church that I was saved in, and even took my 12 year old to get a haircut at Waggoner's, where I got my haircut as a kid. We ate ice cream at the Dairy Queen and then traveled back across the Oklahoma border for some Bill's catfish and hush puppies!

The day was capped off hanging out with an old childhood friend at his home in nearby Iowa Park. It was fun to catch up with someone I haven't seen for over 30 years. We basically picked up where we left off...what a great time!

Tomorrow we journey toward Amarillo to pick back up on 66...but today was a great day!
