A Moment of Confirmation
The journey began today! We departed for Indianapolis, which is the first stop before heading to Chicago to begin our Route 66 adventure. We have the joy of traveling with two of our best friends, Jason and Kala from Whitefish, Montana. They met up with us in Coeur d'Alene to join us on this first leg of our journey before our kids meet up with us next week.
Less than two hours into our road trip, we stopped at the St. Regis Travel Stop in St. Regis, MT. I wanted to grab my first sticker to put on my roof rack and get a cup of coffee and a light breakfast. The Dart was immediately surrounded by onlookers. I have to admit, I enjoy talking to people about the car, letting them take pictures and answering their questions. One guy in particular was just blown away by the Dart. My wife and I proceeded to tell him the story of our upcoming adventure and he exclaimed, "Most guys just TALK about that stuff, you're actually DOING it." That was a confirming moment for me on this trip.
Truth be told, this trip has a lot of risks...the car is over a half a century old! It could very well breakdown. I was worried about making it out of Montana, but I'm blogging right now from Wyoming...so I can at least check that off the list. However, we have miles and miles to go...we could "fail." I will be disappointed if we are unable to complete Route 66...but I am thrilled that I can say I've done more than just "talk." We are on the road...adventure awaits!
